Responsibility

Principles of sustainable tourism

In 2021, we committed to the principles of sustainable tourism and received certification from Finnish Eco-Agrotourism Association ECEAT as proof of our sustainable practices on our farm. We deepened our responsibility in tourism-related activities and applied for the Sustainable Travel Finland label, which was granted to our activities on 29 November 2024. In our actions, we want to ensure that future generations can fulfill their dreams and earn their livelihood from the farm, and that customers can enjoy at Kumpunen Farm Tourism.

Nature

We are committed to cultivating our fields organically, and our activities in the fields and the production of our processed products are monitored annually by the Finnish Food Authority. Our forests are PEFC-certified (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), a forest certification system that promotes ecologically, socially, and economically sustainable forestry.

We consider the surrounding nature by marking paths to the forest, heating the farm buildings with wood chips from our own forest, recycling waste, and utilizing recycled materials in both repairing old and constructing new.

Locality

Collaboration with other entrepreneurs in our area is important to us for both our own well-being and the services we offer. It is great to get ingredients from our own village for the kitchen; delicious potatoes and other vegetables come from Esko and Tuula Laukkanen, fish are caught from nearby lakes, and eggs are sourced from Tuomas Kytölehto’s chicken farm. Currants, blueberries and grains can be found in the farm’s own organic fields.

With the help of local businesses, we can put together a comprehensive service package for events such as weddings: music, transportation, flowers, hairstyles, food, and accommodation, etc.
At Kumpunen Farm Tourism, in addition to the entrepreneur couple, we employ workers from our own or nearby localities depending on the events. Among the summer workers, there are both experienced workers and young people in their first job. Occasionally, we can offer internships to students from various fields.

We respect cultural heritage, for example, by renovating our buildings and providing meal services based on Finnish ingredients produced as locally as possible and traditional recipes on the farm.

Personal Service

We want to meet our customers face to face, listen to the customers and create the services for a successful holiday or occasion in our company. Events are always planned to listen to the customer, what, where and when. In our opinion, involving the customer in the planning of the celebration makes the occasion more personal, so the customer can at will, implement e.g. the interior of the premises and the program themselves, and we only take care of the catering services, or we can implement both the interior and the meals. When planning the event, we consider e.g. jointly agreed schedule, and wishes related to diets, e.g. vegetarian / meat- or fish-based food, as well as special diets as well as other wishes related to food, colors in napkins and flowers, etc. In our cabins you can enjoy sauna, swimming, rowing, skiing and enjoy the open fire both in the fireplace and in the open air, of course we also guide you to the nature trails in the nearby area or to other entrepreneurs’ services, for example Canoe trips and snowmobile safaris, or you can just enjoy the silence and do nothing.
